Learn about the Horse Branch Ranch
Home of HBR Construction
Founded in 2021 & nestled in a valley between the rolling hills of small town rural Kentucky, the thirty acre farm is now home to cows, sheep, chickens and a trio of Great Pyrenees guardians all designed, built & shepherded by three city-slicker brothers from the ground up.
A 3,600 finished square foot barndominium with a 1,200 square foot attached workshop serves as the home and office for HBR Construction where we tend to the day-to-day chores that accompany “farm life” before heading off the range to pour the next foundation for another Post-Frame Metal Building.

FAQ
We Are Here To Help You With Any Questions You May Have
Much like a traditional stick-frame home, the average time to build for a turn-key barndominium is 7-12 months. The most appealing part of a barndominium is the short timeframe to a shell, a weather tight structure ready for trim-out. This can be achieved in weeks instead of months. Depending on your design and finishes, plan on several months to finish the trim-out phase before being ready to move in.

Yes, depending on the application and current disrepair. Concrete overlay material is costly and doesn’t always make sense financially for larger surfaces. Overlays also tend to not last as long as tearing out and replacing with new concrete.
Initial Curing:
Concrete cures and hardens over time. The surface can seem hard within a few hours, but the interior continues to harden for weeks. During the first 48 hours, the concrete is most vulnerable and should be kept free of all traffic, according to Angie’s List.
7-Day Rule:
After seven days, the concrete has usually achieved about 70% of its potential strength, says Angie’s List and Concrete Network. This is generally considered a safe time to drive on it with a passenger vehicle, but be mindful of the edges, which may still be vulnerable.
28-Day Rule:
It takes about a month for concrete to fully cure and reach its maximum strength, according to Angie’s List and Concrete Network. For heavier vehicles, waiting until the concrete is fully cured is recommended to prevent damage or cracking, says Concrete Network.
Factors Affecting Curing:
Curing time can vary based on factors like concrete mix design, weather conditions (temperature and humidity), and the thickness of the concrete slab.
Yes, kind of—you may be able to save some money with a barndominium due to faster construction, simpler post-frame designs, and metal exteriors that reduce material/labor costs. However, final pricing depends on finishes, customization, and site prep. We provide transparent estimates so you can compare options fairly.
While we aim to give you the best price, we prefer to avoid competitive bid situations. Our focus and expertise lies in constructing solutions that last and we prefer to look at every project from this perspective as opposed to trying to complete the project as cheaply as possible. All that to say, we’re happy to work within your budget if you’re comfortable sharing that information with us.
Absolutely! All we ask is that you communicate with us and make every effort to stick to the agreed upon schedule. Projects that drag on tend to get expensive and HBR is not responsible for delays or mistakes outside our approved scope of work.
